If the rumors are true than Topical vitamin C serums are the best thing since sliced bread, uh, oranges. Vitamin C is said to improve skin texture, reduce inflammation, even skin color and have many other benefits. I am not sure about some of the claims, but I have found that if used consistently, vitamin C makes a difference in my skin’s appearance and texture.
I recently had the opportunity to try a sample of Day by Day’s Vitamin C Serum so I could write a review. The timing was perfect as I just ran out of C serum. I have been using Day by Day’s Vitamin C serum daily for about 29 days now and believe it is just as good, if not better than my previous Vitamin C Serum.

Benefits of Vitamin C Serum:
This review is not intended to be medical or professional advice, it is just sharing my experience and opinion. According to Livestrong.com topical C serum can “work to promote the production of collagen, protect skin from harmful rays of the sun and diminish the appearance of sun damage. It can also boost the benefits of skin peels and microdermabrasion” (source link later)

- Comes in cobalt blue glass bottle with pump (important to minimize light and air exposure)
- Vitamin E & Hyaluronic Acid balanced, according to Day by Day

In the following YouTube video, Pam from Day by Day Beauty shares a little more information about this product.
Directions for Use:
1. Apply a small amount to fingertips (one squirt should do it, two at the most)
2. Gently massage into cleansed face, neck and decolletage
3. Allow time to absorb and follow with moisturizer or sunscreen
I followed step 3 with another brand’s Hyaluronic acid (review coming) and a daily moisturizer containing sunscreen. I like to do this after I shower and let the serums absorb while I dry my hair. I used the serum in the morning, since I use a retinol in the evening. But some people prefer to use their serums twice a day or in the evening.
Since I have a family history of Melanoma, I am careful to wear sunscreen all year. However, I do enjoy outside activity and that is where I can get stuck. If I spend the day at an outdoor pool or beach–I forget to reapply the sunscreen often enough. One afternoon on vacation, I developed two large freckles on my cheek. I was able to gradually fade them from daily application of a high quality vitamin C serum. The spots are still there, but the spots are faint and can easily be covered with makeup. Unfortunately, this summer those spots darkened a little. Daily use of Day by Day serum has faded them once again.
I liked that Day by Day’s C Serum does not seem to be overly scented. Most C serums I tried have a distinctive smell that reminds me a little of citrus. Day by Day’s scent had a touch of that “C” smell but also reminded me a little of rosewater.
The skin is a sensitive organ–especially facial skin. People react differently to different products. Sometimes Vitamin C Serums can irritate sensitive skin, a little ironic considering that one of the primary benefits of vitamin C is reduction of inflammation! For this reason, I try to include the ingredients list with all my beauty product reviews. I noticed this product contains witch hazel, a popular natural ingredient, I usually experience a burning sensation with products containing witch hazel. However, for some reason this serum has not caused any skin irritation or burning. My guess is that the irritation I usually experience may be the combination of witch hazel and alcohol. As mentioned, Day by Day Beauty’s serum is free of alcohol.
