I like to make homemade cleaning products using common kitchen items and essential oil. I find that a lot of commercial cleaning solutions irritate my eyes, nose and skin. I sometimes use commercial solutions, but when possible I like to make my own for day-to-day cleaning as I can control the ingredients and scent.
Today I am sharing a tutorial to make your own wood and furniture polish.
Disclosure: I used Skinology Lemon Essential Oil in this project. Skinology sent a sample of their Pure Lemon Essential Oil for review.
Ingredients:
- Oil: I used olive but other types of oil can work
- Vinegar or lemon juice: some prefer lemon juice but sometimes there is concern with staining. I used vinegar.
- Lemon essential oil: I used Skinology Pure Lemon Essential Oil
I used a roughly equal ratio of oil and vinegar. Some prefer the mixture to be biased towards vinegar to be less oily. I used a little of each then stirred it together. Next I added a couple drops of lemon oil.
Instructions:
Be sure and do a patch test on a small area to make sure you like the effect and texture.
Dip a cloth in the oil (I used a microfiber cloth). Apply a small amount to the wood and polish in a circular motion. Let site for a few minutes then buff off any excess oil.
Enjoy!
I used this DIY Wood Polish to clean and polish my dining room table, living room table and a wooden “Tiki” I bought in Hawaii. It worked well for all three and I didn’t have to buff off very much oil.
