Throughout life, our bodies crave movement. But at different times in our lives, we may need or prefer different activities. Jumpstart 180 is a beginner-friendly, gentle fitness program designed by physical therapist Dr. Siobhan France. This 7 workout system is intended to be a low-impact program for older adults.
I received a review copy of the Jumpstart 180 fitness DVD set by Dr. Siobhan France. Dr. France has always graciously offered one lucky Feeling Fit, bit by Bit reader a copy of the Jumpstart 180 fitness DVD system. The giveaway is complete: Congratulations Erin K!

Instructors Presentation Style:
Dr. France has a straight forward instructional style. She engages in very minimal chit-chat, instead she focuses on cuing the workout. The cues are delivered via voice-over. I know some people do not like voice overs, but I actually do as I often find the instruction is often better when voice overs are implemented. Dr. France seems very competent and passionate about providing safe workouts to Boomers and beyond. She utilizes her background in physical therapy to create safe workouts.

What I Like About The Jumpstart 180 System:
The workout is well organized and suitable for the intended audience. Since there are 7 workouts there is some variety.
Dr France provides good form pointers with minimal chatting. I like minimal cuing in a DVD as I get tired of hearing the same joke hundreds of times. What is endearing and fun in a live class can get old on a DVD workout. Fortunately that is not an issue with this DVD.
The instructor and modifiers are visible throughout, the set is brightly lit and I could see the exercises clearly.
While this DVD is intended for seniors returning to exercise and Boomers, it may be good for anyone easing into activity after an injury or extended sedentary lifestyle. The background exercisers (sometimes called modifiers as they demonstrate modifications of exercises) are in the 50+ age range. They are wonderful role models for other older adults following the workout (and for younger adults too!).
I tried the workouts for review purpose and to determine whether I think it is appropriate for my parents. I decided it is, though there are a couple exercises I am not sure of (mainly the neck circles in some of the workout’s warmup). Any workout may contain exercises that are not quite right for some bodies, so it is always important to listen to your own body and modify any exercise if you need to. It helps that Dr. France is a physical therapist.
This Workout DVD Might Not Be For You If:
If you prefer a party-in-the-box workout and/or are an advanced exerciser you may get bored. I didn’t personally care for the music, I especially found it annoying when the exercises were off the beat. This is a small criticism of a very solid program.
I recommend Jumpstart 180 for sedentary people or for older adults who are looking for a solid, sensible 8-week fitness system. I like that it includes a mix of strength, toning, mobility, and aerobic exercise.
