I received a review copy from the publisher Ulysses Press. I have other books from Ulysses Press that are informative, so I was curious to see Freeweight Training Anatomy by Ryan George.
My Review of Freeweight Training Anatomy by Ryan George
Good form is essential to good results. Bad form can diminish the effectiveness of any fitness program and can also cause or contribute to injury. While there is no substitute for working with a personal trainer or instructor, a reference guide is also helpful.
I found Freeweight Training Anatomy by Ryan George interesting and informative. The illustrations are clear, colorful, and they help me understand which muscles are used in each exercise. Knowing where I should feel the effort is helpful. My old Pilates instructor would suggest focussing on the working muscles for best results. I find training this way to be a meditative experience.
Freeweight Training Anatomy by Ryan George also includes step-by-step illustrations of the exercises. There are also written instructions for each exercise. Several classic and popular exercises are featured including the Turkish Get-up, deadlift, kettlebell swing, push-up, pull-up, medicine ball wrap around and more!
Freeweight Training Anatomy also includes full body workouts including a warmup and a cooldown. The workouts are also arranged into six-week programs for a variety of fitness and conditioning goals.
Overall, I am impressed that Freeweight Training Anatomy by Ryan George contains so much content in just 135 pages! The exercises are solid, though a few have risky looking advanced progressions.
