Review: Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen #sweetsationtherapy

February 18, 2015 By Sam Sly Leave a Comment

Sweetsation

A broad spectrum sunscreen is essential if you want to look and be your fittest long-term. I have read that sun damage can cause as much as 80-90 % of the signs of premature aging to the skin for a non-smoker.   I  am not certain on that statistic, but I am a little biased on this topic. There is a history of skin cancer in my family so my passion for sun protection has both  health and vanity motivators.

Disclosure: Sweetsation sent a sample of their Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen,Tinted for this review. I have been using it over the past few weeks in preparation.

My Initial Impressions of Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen,Tinted:

When I first applied this sunscreen, I was initially concerned about the tint. How can one tint work for all complexions? Will it work for me?

I squeezed out a little and was concerned by the slightly tan tone–I was worried it might look orange on my skin. It did when I first applied, but not after I blended it in.  It merged well with my natural skin tone and it also blended well when I tested a self-tanning product for review. I think this is actually a good shade for me, especially in the warmer months. I am curious how it works with other skin tones, but the tint is sheer and blends well so it may work for a range of users. It works better for me than a lot of the BB creams I have tried, so it may be a good alternative BB cream.

I believe the main benefit to the tint is that it is a way to avoid the white “mask” that comes from some sunscreens that contain the active ingredients (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide). The active ingredients are effective physical sunblocks, but I know from experience they can result in a white glow in photographs (if pale like me). I have taken selfies while wearing Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen without noticing the white mask or glow.

I was wearing this sunscreen in this selfie and also testing a self tanning product.

When I first apply the sunscreen I feel a cooling sensation to my skin and smell a cool “medicinal” scent. I am always concerned about scented facial products as added scents can irritate sensitive skin. I have not noticed any irritation, though I would prefer not to have the scent. It isn’t bad, and is just a matter of personal preference. I do think the “cooling” sensation might be quite pleasant in the heat of Summer.

I want to also mention the texture when worn on the skin. I find that a lot of good sunscreens have a thick, greasy feel on my skin. Sunscreen products with that texture also tend to break me out if I wear them too often. This has a hint of it, but feels lighter and less greasy. That sensation goes away after the sunscreen is blended and has time to settle. I have not had any unusual breakouts since using Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen. I do find my skin is well moisturized when I wear this sunscreen which is not surprising due to the moisturizing ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E and other popular skin-friendly ingredients.

I do recommend Sun Si’belle Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen  as a broad spectrum sunscreen that can double as a BB cream (for some users). My only concerns are whether you would find the scent or the cooling  sensation pleasant (some will and some may not).
