Today’s workout was a mission from the “Zombies, Run!” phone app. I started this one a few weeks ago, but became distracted and kind of forgot about it. Wow! I forgot how fun it is. I am not much of a runner, but the combination of the unfolding story, my own music, and the simple game play really help the time pass.
Basically this app is like a combination of an audio book, run tracker and game. You are “Runner 5” and, well the app’s home site describes the premise well:
“You’re Runner 5. Hundreds of lives are counting on you. You’ve got to help your base rebuild from the ruins of civilization by collecting critical supplies while avoiding roving zombie hordes. Can you save them and learn the truth about the zombie apocalypse?”
I tend to do a mix of walking and running as I am not a consistent or serious runner. For some reason, I had a few technical difficulties with today’s mission that slowed my workout down a little. Nothing major, but for some reason my music wasn’t playing so I had to run to dead air. Not fun! I like a little distraction and motivation. I finally figured a work around, I don’t know if it was my music settings or the app. I think it was some user error as the music worked fine with Zombies, Run! in the past. Even so, I was chased by zombies twice on this mission so that managed to boost the intensity a bit. In the end, I managed to cover 3 and a half miles. I would have stayed out longer, but I have another commitment. Anything that gets me out and moving and covering 3 miles is A-OK in my book!
